In this video interview, Dr. Matt Geller and Dr. Fayiz Mahgoub discuss top book recommendations for optometrists. Here's what you can use to learn.

In this video interview, we speak to Dr. Fayiz Mahgoub who shares his top book recommendations for optometrists.

Success in business, including the business of optometry, requires a solid grounding in the right principles. Dr. Fayiz Mahgoub and Dr. Matt Geller talk with one another about some of the books that have taught them the most about life in general and entrepreneurship in particular.
Dr. Mahgoub starts by recommending Napoleon Hill’s 1937 self-improvement classic, Think and Grow Rich.
Other books he recommends include:
  • Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action by Simon Sinek;
  • The Only Investment Guide You’ll Ever Need by Andrew Tobias
  • Start Your Own Corporation: Why The Rich Own Their Own Companies and Everyone Else Works for Them by Garrett Sutton
He also recommends the works of Gary Vaynerchuck for their insight into the topic of marketing and personal branding. Another book he's found useful is Who Do You Want Your Customers To Become by Michael Schrage, which he describes as “a really great book about educating patients and customers into valuing the things that they should be valuing.”
Dr. Geller’s recommendations include Jim Collins' Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap and Others Don’t, James Allen's As A Man Thinketh, and Tony Robbins’ hugely influential Awaken the Giant Within: How To Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical, and Financial Destiny.
He cites Ray Dalio’s Principles as “probably the most influential book [he] read on team management and things like that.” A book that has taught him a lot about effective negotiation strategy is Never Split the Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It by Christopher Voss and Tahl Raz. Finally, he recommends Venture Deals: Be Smarter Than Your Lawyer and Venture Capitalist by Brad Feld and Jason Mendelson, which he describes as “a really good book if you want to learn about venture funding and seed funding.”
