With the advent of modern technology and social media, it is a terrible time to have social anxiety.
To have a successful practice, you need to be prepared to utilize all forms of marketing, a large part of which should involve social media.
This is no easy feat however. It can be difficult to navigate through all the social media platforms to understand how to best utilize them effectively.
Some social media platforms may be more advantageous than others when it comes to optometry marketing.
We had an opportunity to chat with Harbir Sian, OD, Founder of Highstreet EyeCare Center at Vision Expo East 2017 where Dr. Sian revealed some important social media marketing tips for private practice owners.
The way we access information has completely changed.
TV and newspaper are much a thing of the past. In the modern world we live in, the internet has become an overwhelming source of information, and a means of finding things.
This includes your optometry practice.
If you are not on social media, or do not have a social media presence, you are losing a great opportunity to connect with and attract potential patients.
How to get started with social media
- Establish a social media presence
- Choose social platforms
- Engage with your audience
The number one step is simply creating a social media profile on social platforms of choice.
Facebook and Instagram are probably the two best places to start.
How to engage with your audience
Keep it simple.
Show people who you are and where you work. You can choose to highlight things you enjoy about optometry, and choose images and other media that you think patients might enjoy looking at.
Avoid using your social platform to sell and promote, but rather utilize it as a means to create a connection with your patients.
Just remember to keep your business accounts and your private accounts separate!
