Luxottica North America Partners with AOSA To Create New Learning Experience for Optometry Students
The first “EyeFWD” experience, October 7-11, will help select OD students better understand the business of eye care to achieve the practice of their dreams
July 31, 2017 (Cincinnati, OH) -- Luxottica Retail’s Eye Care Division in North America, which supports the practice development and growth of their affiliated doctors, has launched a new learning experience for optometry students focused on building and maintaining a successful OD practice.
The five-day course, called EyeFWD, will take place October 7-11, 2017 and will be open for applications starting today. 50 students will be awarded a fully paid trip to Luxottica’s headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio where they will be treated to real world curriculum designed to show them what it’s like to run a modern and profitable OD business while balancing patient care goals.
EyeFWD will expose attendees to the ins and outs of developing a business plan, marketing, inventory planning, financial planning, people management and self-development and other skills.
“In talking with students around the country, it’s clear they are getting a great education focused on patient care. But they’re hungry for a better understanding of the business side of eye care,” said Jason Singh, Chief Medical Officer for Luxottica Retail in North America. “We want to continue to listen to their collective voice and create supportive programming whenever possible. We are equipped as an organization to offer guidance and fill the preparedness gap between diagnosing and treating patients and building the business of their dreams. We hope this is a good thing for optometry overall.”
With over 2,500 locations and 5 million patients a year, Luxottica Retail North America has acquired a lifetime of knowledge on how to provide the best care for patients while ensuring business success. Luxottica has amplified its support of the OD student community over the past year, including hosting the first-ever OneSight clinic for optometry students in Tanzania in May and launching The Luxottica Optometry Scholarship, which will recognize 20 students with a $5,000 award.
The application process, accessible here, will occur from July 31st - August 18th. Winners will be notified by September 6th. (Note: If students are awarded a spot and plan to attend Academy, flights will be arranged to fly them home via Chicago so they can full participation at AAO.)
