Applications Open for OneSight Student Clinics at Annual Optometry Meeting
Mason, OH, June 25, 2018 – Applications are now open for the 2019 Student OneSight clinic to a yet-to-be-determined global location next May. The announcement came during the student education session at the annual Optometry Meeting held in Denver.
As part of the session, Luxottica recognized students who participated in the 2018 OneSight clinics to Oaxaca, Mexico and brought eye care to more than 7100 patients over a two-week period.

Optometry students interested in participating in a 2019 OneSight vision clinic can apply online at www.luxotticaeyecare.luxottica.com for consideration.

OneSight is an organization that brings vision care access to underserved communities around the globe. Students work with supervising ODs and other volunteers to give the gift of sight and truly change lives.
Last year's OneSight clinic went to Oaxaca, Mexico and brought eyecare to more than 7100 patients over a two-week period!
By participating in OneSight, you get to:
  • Travel and see the world - for free
  • Practice clinical skills and put your knowledge to the test
  • Make long-lasting friendships
  • Change lives (literally)
  • See what optometry can do when we all work together
“The mission has such a great goal. It’s to help people see. And they don’t have easily accessible resources. To be able to have that outreach to such a deserving community is pretty incredible,” says Valerie Tran, a new graduate from the University of California-Berkeley, School of Optometry when asked about her experience when in Oaxaca.
On the OneSight trip, OD students work under the supervision of Luxottica Retail affiliated doctors performing comprehensive eye exams. They help support a core team of Luxottica volunteers in the frame fitting, manufacturing and dispensing of new eyewear. For the OD students selected, Luxottica Retail covers expenses associated with the clinic, including air fare, accommodations and meals.
“Students want to give back but they didn’t really know what opportunities are out there. So here we are showing them what doctors in the community are doing and how they can be a part of that community,” says Ben Chudner, OD, Senior Clinical Director.
“It’s a short period of time but in that short period of time they’re going to see so much more than they would see in a regular rotation that they might do. It’s just intense. It’s just one after the other after the other. I think it’s an amazing opportunity for students,” Chudner continues.
OneSight is a leading organization focused on bringing both sustainable and urgent vision care solutions to communities around the world. To date, OneSight has helped ten million people in 46 countries see clearly. By 2020, OneSight will provide ongoing access to vision care to over 20 million people.
“We were able to help this man see for the first time. That’s when it hit me, we’re doing something really big here. We’re helping people. These people have never seen before and we’re making a big difference in their lives,” said rising fourth-year David Pace from the University of Incarnate Word-Rosenberg School of Optometry of his experience.
Applications will be accepted today, June 25th, 2018 through December 10th, 2018. Student selection will be done jointly by Luxottica and NOSA leadership. Students will be notified by early January along with the clinic global location. The 2019 trip is a partnership between OneSight, Luxottica and the National Optometric Student Association (NOSA).
